The California Highway Patrol set up an unexpected checkpoint Saturday at a rest stop just outside of Turlock.
The inspection point was stationed at the Enoch Christoffersen Rest Stop on southbound Highway 99. All buses and vans were required to stop and be inspected.
Contrary to some mistaken posts on social media website, the inspection point was not intended to find illegal immigrants. The general inspection simply reviewed drivers’ licenses and logbooks, and conducted a quick safety check. Most inspections were completed in 10 minutes.
According to CHP officers on site, inspections are regularly performed at the Christoffersen Rest Stop. The CHP requires either trucks or buses to stop in alternating months.
