Gem Show to Rock Turlock Fairgrounds

Its time to rock out at The Mother Lode Mineral Society’s 48th Annual Rock and Gem Show, coming March 8 and 9 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

This educational event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and feature tons of interesting exhibits and activities for rock and gem enthusiasts, as well as those looking to gain nuggets of knowledge.

Minerals, beads, pearls, fossils, meteorites and gemstones will be on display.

Some of the most popular exhibits include the Black Hole Tunnel exhibit of astrophotography, the Tehty’s Ocean Project exhibit of marine fossils, the Fluorescent Tent, and geode cutting.

In addition rocks, rock slabs and books will be available for sale. On Saturday at 1 p.m. there will be a lecture on astronomy and at 3 p.m. a lecture on dinosaurs. On Sunday at 1:30 p.m. there will be a second lecture on dinosaurs.

Kids activities include bracelet making, soapstone amulet creation, a touch-and-see table and gold panning.

Admission is $6 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. Parking is free and food and drink will be available for purchase.
