Sandra Gail Baptista
December 29, 1947 – April 2, 2014
Sandra (Sandee) was born in Turlock, CA to Merlin and Geraldine Shippee and passed away at the age of 66 in Turlock. She graduated from Turlock High School in 1966 and attended Modesto Junior College before marrying her soul-mate Jim Baptista in 1968. Jim and Sandee worked together as almond ranchers, and then started a family and keeping their roots in Turlock. She was a homemaker and used her creative talents to design wreaths and various arrangements using mostly items from nature; she called her crafts booth Nature’s Nook. She also worked for Linda LaChapell as a floral designer, which was one of her many passions. Sandee also enjoyed water skiing, boating, bowling, gardening and spending time with her family. She loved to cook and preserve fruits and vegetables and won numerous awards at the county fair for her canned dill pickles. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since she was three years old years, serving as Sgt at Arms and was responsible for being the Auxiliary flag bearer for Memorial Day services. She also worked on many various veterans’ chairmanships including the distribution of poppies to help disabled veterans. In recent years, she belonged to the Turlock Senior Center, and enjoyed the fellowship of the exercise group, cards, and dominos. However, her greatest joy of all was her granddaughter Keira who was the light of her life. Sandee’s lovely smile and sweet disposition will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sandra is survived by her husband Jim Baptista; children Jeff (wife Stayce) Baptista of Turlock and David Baptista of Modesto; mother Geraldine Shippee; brother Mark Shippee of San Marcos and granddaughter Keira Baptista. She is preceded in death by her father and her brother Rodney Shippee.
Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Graveside service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial service will follow at the First Presbyterian Church, Turlock at 12:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the church.
