A metal thief was arrested early Monday after he fled from Turlock police and tried to hide underneath some tumbleweeds.
Turlock police responded to the 500 block of South Tegner Road at 3:43 a.m. on Monday when they received report of a male attempting to steal stainless steel from a business.
The report came from someone at a neighboring business, said Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb.
As Turlock police arrived at the business, the suspect, later identified as Ricky Lewis, 39, allegedly fled from officers.
He fled into a field between South Walnut and South Tegner roads, which is where he was arrested, said Webb. Officers located him attempting to hide underneath some tumbleweeds in the field.
Lewis was arrested for attempted grand theft and resisting arrest.
