Colin Kaepernick, star quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers and a Turlock native, is in the running for to be the cover star of the Madden NFL 15 video game.

Kap is one of 16 NFL stars in the running for the cover, and the No. 2 seed on his side of the bracket. He is facing off against Philadelphia Eagles breakout quarterback Nick Foles in the first round.

If Kap moves on to the second round, he’ll be matched up against either Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos receiver, or Luke Kuechly, reigning Defensive Player of the Year and Carolina Panthers linebacker.

The most interesting matchup could be in the semifinals, where Kap could be matched up against Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who tipped the Kaepernick pass to “mediocre” 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree that sent Seattle to the Super Bowl.

Some 49ers may not want Kap on the cover, however. Some believe that there is a “Madden Curse” where cover athletes either underperform or get injured in the year the grace the cover.

The winner will be decided by a fan vote. Voters can vote in each matchup once per day. To see the full bracket and vote, visit http://espn.go.com/nfl/feature/maddenvote.
