Two “large” food processing factories may soon be coming to the City of Turlock.

Turlock Assistant to the City Manager for Housing and Economic Development Maryn Pitt said last week that two businesses have submitted applications to site factories in the Turlock Regional Industrial Park.

“It’s exciting,” Pitt said.

Pitt could not reveal the identities of the businesses at this time. She could only state that both are “large projects” and are in the food processing industry, which aligns closely with the agriculture-based cluster of businesses which call the Turlock Regional Industrial Park home.

The 2,600-acre industrial park is located on Turlock’s west side. Its shovel-ready land, with infrastructure pre-built by the City of Turlock at more than $8 million in cost, has attracted Blue Diamond Growers, U.S. Cold Storage, and the Hilmar Cheese Company.

The City of Turlock hopes to expand the Turlock Regional Industrial Park’s usable area in the years to come, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Economic Development Action Committee.

The city is applying for $2.5 to $3 million in grant funding to extend infrastructure from West Main Street south on Washington Road, then east on Linwood Avenue to Tegner Road.

“It would basically make all of those parcels between Main and Linwood, Washington and Tegner shovel-ready,” Pitt said.
