An unlicensed driver caused power outages near Downtown Turlock on Friday morning, after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole.

The driver, later identified as Emilio Gallo, 18, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole on East Avenue between Rose Avenue and Minaret Street.

The driver was allegedly leaving the Pop-N-Cork parking lot when he lost control of the vehicle. It is unknown why Gallo lost control of his vehicle.

Turlock Police Department received report of the accident at 9:06 a.m.

After the accident, Gallo fled the scene, but a witness of the accident was able to point officers in the direction of the fleeing suspect, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Officers were able to locate the suspect, and arrested him for misdemeanor hit and run and for driving without a license. Gallo was cited for the offenses.

East Avenue between Rose Avenue and Minaret Street was closed to through traffic while power lines were replaced in the area. Residents in the area were without power following the accident, and during the replacement of the utility pole and power lines.
