Drivers at the intersection of Monte Vista and Colorado avenues will soon see a new traffic light in the works, as road construction is now underway.

Colorado Avenue is expected to be closed to thru traffic between Monte Vista Avenue and Burman Drive until Sept. 2.

The intersection of Colorado and Monte Vista avenues is still currently open, for those traveling east and west on Monte Vista Avenue. The south side of Colorado at the intersection also remains open for those wanting to turn east and west onto Monte Vista Avenue.

There is a detour however for those wanting to travel north on Colorado Avenue from the intersection at Monte Vista Avenue. The short detour takes drivers east down Monte Vista Avenue approximately a block, to turn left on Berkeley Avenue and left again on Burman Drive.

Turlock City Engineer Mike Pitcock confirmed the job back in April, when demolition began. Formerly a four-way stop, the new intersection is being expanded to include, in addition to the signal, new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

“It’s much-needed,” Pitcock said at the start of the project on April 7.
