Creative Alternatives to host the Grace Bishop Scholarship Run at California State University, Stanislaus and starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 7.

“Grace Bishop was a past board member who believed in giving back to our kids,” Darren Borrelli, race coordinator, said. “The run brings awareness to foster youth.”

The run features three different lengths: the one-mile, the 5K and the 10K. The cost for the one-mile run starts at $20 and both the 5K and 10K runs start at $25.

“The proceeds of the scholarship run go to exactly that — scholarships to our graduating foster youth,” said Borrelli. “This year alone up to $20,000 was awarded to 23 clients that graduated from high school. As of right now we have 120 registered for tomorrow’s run. We normally get 30 plus walk ups.”

Sign in and registration start at 7 a.m. and go until 8 a.m. The one-mile run begins at 8:15 a.m., with the 5K and 10K runs starting at 8:30 a.m.

“Most of the clients don¹t have a family support system that I and many others have,” said Borrelli. “So if there is a need for something… our agency puts a request in for the money. It could be clothing for a new job, pots and pans because they got their own place, need to buy books for college or steel-toed boots for vocational school.”
