Olsen to Hold Town Hall on Water Rights

TurlockCityNews.com

Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) will hold a town hall meeting in Modesto Thursday, where experts will discuss the hot-button issue of water rights.

According to an advisory, attendees will be informed of “win-win solutions to the drought” currently being pursued by the State Water Resources Control Board. Those solutions include the development of new water storage, additional water recycling, and new desalination plants.

The SWRCB has already reduced water access to some junior right holders, and could cut back on water availability to some senior rights holders on July 1. The advisory notes the curtailment of water availability could be “devastating” to local farms and the Valley economy.

In addition to Olsen, Modesto Irrigation District Board Member Paul Campbell and representatives from the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau will be in attendance.

The meeting will run from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau, 1201 L St., Modesto.
