Looking for some free fun activities for children age 3 to 18 this summer?

The City of Turlock Parks and Recreation Department’s “REC on Wheels” program will offer free activities to the community from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Tuesday and Friday at Denair Park, 850 E. Main St.

Each day fun activities, crafts, and games for all ages will be offered to the public. All supplies and games will be provided by Parks and Rec. Just look for the white van, show up and have fun!

Turlock Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Manager Allison Van Guilder says the idea is not new to Turlock, and the department used to have the exact same program prior to the economic recession and budget cutbacks.

This time around, the idea was reborn last year as a result of the Denair Park Task Force, which was developed to solve the myriad of illegal activities that plagued the Denair Park neighborhood.

“From the task force community members said they wanted to bring this back. We are hoping to deter all the negative activities at Denair Park and make it a place where people aren’t afraid to go. We are really excited to have this and we thank our generous businesses who are sponsoring REC on Wheels,” said Van Guilder.

She explained that Turlock businesses Mann Electric Inc., B & B, and Bergman Landscape are providing 100 percent of the cost for REC on Wheels.

“Ultimately our hope is that other businesses will catch on and say, ‘How can we do something like this in our neighborhood,’” said Van Guilder.
