Retired teacher Ed Brault confirmed Thursday that he no longer has intentions to run for Turlock City Mayor.
Previously, Brault had stated that he was throwing his name in the ring for the sake of democracy, as at that time only one candidate had announced his intention: Gary Soiseth.
“I do not plan to campaign,” Brault said in a past article with TurlockCityNews.com. “I do not plan to raise or accept funds from anyone. I do not plan to make any promises. I am running simply because I think voters should have a choice. If Mr. Soiseth runs unopposed, he will win by default, and that doesn’t seem quite right in a democracy. I do not expect any political backing from Turlock’s power structure.”
Brault went on to teach English as a Second Language at the Turlock Adult School for 10 years after his retirement from his position at Turlock High School. Originally born in New England, Brault has lived in Turlock for more than 50 years.
Brault filed a 501 form, the intention for candidacy, in late-March but now, with Mike Brem having entered the race, Brault says that he is in fact removing his name from the future ballot in the November General Election.
