On Aug. 5, neighborhoods around Turlock will participate in the nationwide event “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
At the National Night Out, Turlockers will lock their doors, turn on the outside lights, and spend the evening outdoors with fellow neighbors and police.
National Night Out is designed to heighten drug and crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participate in local anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
Neighborhoods are encouraged to host block parties, have local DJ services, cookouts, ice cream socials, or other neighborhood gatherings. And neighborhoods can even get a visit from an official of the Turlock Police or Fire departments, or McGruff the Crime Dog, if you register your party with Turlock Police Department.
Those interested in participating in the National Night Out can contact Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff at 209-656-3153.
Party registration forms are due no later than July 17 to ensure a visit from a police or fire official.
