The Turlock Police Department have officially released details of a Saturday morning accident where a bicyclist was struck and killed by a train.
According to the release, Turlock police, fire, and medical responded to the Fulkerth Road and Golden State Boulevard railroad crossing on the report of a bicyclist hit by a train at approximately 10:41 a.m.
Emergency crews arrived on scene and declared the bicyclist deceased. The victim has not been identified, but appears to be an adult male, said the Turlock Police Department.
There were several witnesses of the incident who said that the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Fulkerth Road in the eastbound lanes. The railroad crossing arms were already down when the victim attempted to cross the tracks and was struck by the train, said the Turlock Police Department.
The train was blocking both the Fulkerth and Tuolumne roads intersections, but has since been cleared at roughly 3 p.m.
Emergency crews were still on scene at 3:30 p.m. and there are now partial lane closures; the Turlock Police Department expects normal traffic controls to handle the traffic from the Stanislaus County Fair to be in place by 5 p.m.
