Turlock’s time to shine on the big screen is one step closer to becoming a reality, as the official trailer for the movie “Christian Mingle” was temporarily released by Home Theater Films Wednesday, before the link was made private on YouTube.
Corbin Bernsen of “Psych” and “LA Law” fame owns Home Theater Films, and served as producer and director for the upcoming movie. Late last night, TurlockCityNews.com was able to catch the official movie trailer online, but now the link shows that the video was made private. No announcement of the release was made on the production company’s website or Facebook page, and request for comment has not been returned.
Michael Everett, Executive Director of the Turlock Film Commission, explained that Home Theater Films will most likely do a full launch with a website ready for “Christian Mingle” the movie next week. This is probably why the link has been made private — things aren’t quite ready for the big reveal just yet. Everett said Home Theater Films told him that the initial release was a mistake, and that the official trailer will most likely be up again Aug. 5.
Everett also said that last week he was with Bernsen helping put the final touches on the movie, adding sound and music for the film. It is unknown yet whether the premiere for the film would be invite-only, but Everett assumes that those involved at all in the film will have the opportunity to be there. He believes the premiere will most likely be held at Regal Turlock Stadium 14 in October.
Bernsen held auditions in late November of 2013 allowing Turlockers the opportunity to play minor roles or serve as extras. Filming for the movie quietly began in Turlock Dec. 4, 2013.
By mid-December though, West Main Street was temporarily shut down to traffic by the filmmakers as production went into full force. Crowds gathered to watch the long hours of filming, and more than 200 local extras (plucked from more than 500 auditioners) waited anxiously for their turns in various scenes. Most ended up appearing in walking scenes on the street, in the background of indoor scenes like at the bakery, or in a makeshift church alongside the lead character, played by Lacey Chabert of “Mean Girls” and “Party of Five” fame.
Scenes including Turlock’s Downtown sidewalks and storefronts were already visible in the trailer, featuring Chabert as female lead Gwyneth Hayden, as well as costars Morgan Fairchild, John O’Hurley, Jonathan Patrick Moore, Stephen Tobolowsky, David Keith, and Saidah Arrika Ekulona.
Shots in the trailer showed a preview of plenty of cameos from Turlock businesses, including pieces provided by Woods Furniture. From Gwyneth’s first date with her Christian Mingle match in Lisa’s Cookie Jar to a shopping spree in Ritzy Ragz and Thingz designer consignment store, Turlockers will be sure to recognize spots from home. Other scenes simply show Gwyneth with friends walking past the storefronts of local bars, shops, and boutiques downtown.
Bernsen plays the character of “Matt,” according to IMDB.com, but does not appear in the trailer.
As viewers will later see in the trailer, the film is an up-to-date, small budget (around $1 million) romantic comedy that follows the story of Gwyneth Hayden, a 30-something single with a successful career and a lacking love-life. So in good romantic comedy form what does she do? Do whatever it takes to try to find a man. After seeing a commercial for the dating site, ChristianMingle.com, Gwyneth decides to sign up, despite the fact that she does not consider herself a practicing Christian, and neither do her friends or coworkers.
Comedic awkwardness ensues as Hayden meets a “nice guy” that believes her to be Christian. When he finds out her secret, he’s not amused and Gwyneth is left to take a look at her own life and personal views. Eventually, as the description that accompanies the trailer says, “[God] delivers on the true desires of her heart: ‘life-changing love.’”
According to its site, Home Theater Films creates “smart family films” for all ages that “generate exploration and discussion through their themes.” The movie will debut in October.
TurlockCityNews.com will announce when the trailer is officially announced.
