A police pursuit of a suspect in a stolen vehicle on Sunday night ended with a collision that sent a civilian to a local hospital and the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect, later identified as Miguel Flores, 27, was driving a stolen vehicle when police attempted to stop him on the 1700 block of Joett Drive at approximately 8:41 p.m., according to the Turlock Police Department.
Flores failed to yield to police, and a pursuit ensued north toward North Tully Road.
The pursuit ended when Flores, who was driving a white Dodge pickup, collided with a black Honda sedan at the intersection of North Tully and Tuolumne roads.
The suspect was traveling northbound on North Tully Road, allegedly in the southbound lane to pass vehicles, when he ran the stop sign and collided with the victim, who was traveling eastbound on Tuolumne Road, said Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb. The force of the collision sent the Honda across Tuolumne Road and into the wall that surrounds the Cottage Park gated community.
After the collision, Flores attempted to flee the scene on foot, but officers were able to apprehend the suspect, said Webb.
Flores was then arrested for possession of stolen property, felony failure to yield, felony drunk driving, and resisting arrest, according to the Turlock Police Department.
The accident left Tuolumne Road closed between Golden State Boulevard and Trotter Way while crews worked to clean up the wreckage.
The victim in the Honda was transported to a local hospital with lacerations to the head, said Webb.
