La Mo has announced its long-awaited coffee shop will open on Wednesday, Aug. 27 bright and early at 6:30 a.m.
The coffee shop was first announced in March, with hopes of a summer opening. Due to permits and construction, the opening was delayed a bit, but is finally here.
According La Mo co-owner, Hillary Smith, the idea of the coffee shop was first born in July 2013 on the premise of creating a place for Turlockers to hang out Downtown, but not just by creating another bar.
Café La Mo, as it will be called, will serve coffee, espresso, and will have nine varieties of loose leaf tea available. Coffee will be available via french press, pour over, chemex, cold brew iced coffee, and “community” coffee, all made from Clayton coffee beans.
The idea of the “community” coffee is for customers to essentially pay what they can for the regular drip coffee. Community coffee has a suggested price of $2.50 and $3 for small and large cups, respectively, but customers can pay more or less based on what they want.
“We want to make something available for everyone,” said Smith about community coffee. “We think it’ll demonstrate the generosity of the community.”
Along with the coffee, Café La Mo will also be selling some tasty eats. The coffee shop will be selling baked goods, bagels provided by Mainly Bagels, grab ‘n’ go salads, raw tamales that can be taken home and steamed, and La Mo’s famous “Wedding Sauce” by the tub.
La Mo has gone through a long process since first receiving permits from the City of Turlock to begin demolition at the 310 E. Main St. location in the Shopper’s Eden space that faces Main Street.
On Aug. 19 at 4 p.m., La Mo received word from the City that they could begin training, and the team wasted no time getting started.
The coffee shop will be open Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shop will be closed on Mondays. Free Wi-Fi will be available.
Café La Mo opens Wednesday morning and a grand opening is expected to be held in the coming weeks.
