The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was hit and killed by a train early on Saturday morning in what police are calling a suicide.

Russell Holgate, 58, has been identified as a victim in the collision.

According to the Turlock Police Department, the report of the collision came from Union Pacific Railroad at approximately 4:36 a.m., which had relayed the information from the conductor of the train.

Upon arriving on scene, officers located the body approximately 100 yards south of Tuolumne Road.

Holgate was reportedly sitting on the tracks, with his legs crossed, facing the oncoming train, which was traveling northbound and approximately 50 mph, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The Turlock Police Department has reported the incident as a suicide.

This was the second death by train in less than one week, as a bicyclist was fatally hit while crossing the tracks at Marshall Street near S. First Street.

There was also a fatal train accident on July 19, when a man attempted to cross the tracks on his bicycle when the railroad crossing arms were down at Golden State Boulevard and Fulkerth Road.
