In honor of the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Turlock Fire Department and a local veteran are doing their part to remember tragedy.
The Turlock Fire Department is inviting the community to join them at any Turlock fire station at 7 a.m. as they raise the American Flag.
A moment of silence will also be held in honor of Sept. 11.
Then, at 6:30 p.m., Turlock resident and U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran Cory Smith is inviting the community to participate in the third annual 9/11 Red, White and Blue 5k Run.
Last year, nearly 400 participants raised $800 for the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs for injured service members.
The 5k run will start at Donnelly Park, located at 600 Pedras Rd., at 6:30 p.m.
Registration for the run will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on the day of the event. More than 401 people have already registered on Facebook.
