A suspect driving a stolen vehicle remains at-large after taking authorities on a high speed pursuit and crashing into a canal on Thursday night.
Turlock police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a suspect who was allegedly driving a black Honda at an excessive speed around 10 p.m. on the 700 block of South First Street, near G Street, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.
While attempting to make the stop, the suspect allegedly failed to yield to police and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit traveled west until the suspect crashed the vehicle into the canal near Washington Road and Linwood Avenue.
According to Lewis, the suspect then fled from the vehicle on foot and K-9 Units were dispatched to locate the suspect.
The vehicle that the suspect was driving was later found to had been stolen out of Oakland, and officers found a weapon in the vehicle, said Lewis.
Officers from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol responded to assist the Turlock Police Department.
A perimeter was set up in the area, however the authorities were unable to locate the suspect, said Lewis, and he remains at-large.
No description of the suspect is available other than he is an adult male.
