Life-long Turlock resident Christanna Rea Weaver, 19, has loved singing since she was a little girl when she grew up singing in her dad’s old church.
Her dad, Mike Weaver, has served as a pastor since 2002, and Christanna’s angelic voice has often been heard in front of church congregations.
On Monday, she took her voice to a new level and auditioned for “American Idol” at the San Francisco audition in Daly City.
Since graduating from Connecting Waters Charter School in Modesto, Christanna has pushed for her dreams. This was her second try at American Idol — this time singing “Mama Knows Best” by Jessie J, a powerful song with big runs that certainly requires a confident voice to even attempt.
Unfortunately Christanna did not get advanced to the next audition, saying being near the back of the line she had to wait before she could stand in front of producers.
“They said unfortunately because San Francisco is the last audition city, the bar is set really high,” said Christanna. “They said I had a great voice but they had already picked contestants with my same look and sound and to come back next year.”
But she is taking the advice well and plans to audition next year again with American Idol and take her shot with “The Voice” on NBC.
“My plan is to keep moving forward in my music career and to never give up on my dreams,” said Christanna. “Whatever it takes, I’m willing to try my absolute best to reach my dreams. I have so much support in this community. I was very blessed with all the feedback I got from friends, family and even acquaintances here in Turlock.”
Although she may not appear on Fox for her advancement to the next audition, Christanna will likely be on TV for a brief shot with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.
While standing in line, Christanna was plucked out of the crowd by producers and asked to stand in front of the crowd, directly next to Seacrest to film the first segments of the San Francisco auditions.
“That was really cool to actually talk to Seacrest,” explained Christanna. “He first said hi to the contestants around him and then I said to him, ‘Hey! You seem a lot taller in person!’ He replied ‘I do don’t I?!’ Then he asked me if I was excited to audition and then wished me luck.”
The 14th season of American Idol will premiere on FOX on Jan. 14, 2015.
