The Turlock Police Department is currently investigating a collision that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
Turlock Police and the Turlock Fire Department responded to the intersection of the Ninth Street and Rockwood Avenue at approximately 4:48 p.m. Wednesday on the report of a collision.
According to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis, a motorcyclist was hit and killed by a sedan.
The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Ninth Street while a gold sedan was traveling southbound. The sedan struck the motorcyclist while attempting to make a left turn onto Rockwood Avenue.
A 51-year-old male, who had been riding the motorcycle,suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arriving to the hospital.
The driver of the sedan, a 25-year-old male was not injured in the accident.
Ninth Street was closed around Rockwood Avenue as of 6:55 p.m.
At this time, the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently investigating the incident.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The collision occurred approximately one block from the fatal hit and run that claimed the life of three Turlock residents on Sept. 6.
