Within hours, the line for the hiring fair hosted by Hilmar Cheese at the War Memorial on Tuesday stretched around the corner with hopeful hires eagerly waiting their chance for an interview.
The first job fair of its kind hosted by Hilmar Cheese was intended to bring in applicants for several full-time entry-level production and supervisor positions for both the Hilmar location, and the soon-to-be opened milk powder plant in Turlock.
The Turlock facility, which is estimated to bring approximately 40 full-time jobs, will be located within the boundaries of the Turlock Regional Industrial Park, near the recently constructed Blue Diamond plant. Plans are to complete the plant by summer of 2015.
Prospective employees waited in line for hours to get the opportunity to test and interview a full-time positions with starting pay of $14.25 an hour.
Hilmar Cheese originally estimated the wait and interview time to be up to four hours, however the large turnout kept applicants waiting much longer.
