A male subject was arrested for burglary after video surveillance allegedly revealed him stealing keys and cigarettes from a Turlock business.
Officers responded to a business on the 100 block of Lander Avenue at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 1 after receiving report that store employees had detained a burglary suspect.
Earlier in the day, a suspect, later identified as Matthew Santos-Campos, 25, had allegedly stolen keys to the business and cigarettes, reports the Turlock Police Department.
Santos-Campos returned to the store, and was detained by store employees who allegedly had surveillance video of the burglary, said Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb.
The employees had not reported the theft until the suspect had returned to the store, said Webb.
When officers arrived and contacted Santos-Campos, they allegedly found the stolen items in the suspect’s vehicle, reports the Turlock Police Department.
Santos-Campos was arrested for burglary.
He was later located after his partner claimed Santos-Campos was assaulted in the store; he was not assaulted, according to Turlock police.
Burglary can happen at any time and at any place, that is why shops, stores, etc. need to put measures in place to make sure it does not happen, or it is reduced. During the night, break-ins can be common, that is why installing Security Glass as well as reinforced doors can help mitigate this, and stop an extremely serious theft. Hopefully, this store has put in for these changes to be made so something like this does not come about again.
