The man suspected of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he found on Instagram was taken into custody on Monday, nearly 10 months after he went on the run from Turlock police.
Eladio G. Ramirez Tizoc, 23, of Modesto, was arrested on Dec. 4, 2013 on two counts of sodomy, two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior, penetration with a foreign object and unlawful sexual intercourse.
Tizoc had been suspected of hiding in Mexico after missing his arraignment in January, which is when Homeland Security Investigations Mexico became involved in the case.
On Monday, Tizoc was apprehended as he was attempting to cross the border to the U.S. from Mexico, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.
Officers from the Turlock Police Department were sent to pick up Tizoc and he was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Tuesday at 12:57 a.m.
Tizoc had allegedly met the victim after following and commenting on her Instagram when she was 13 years old. He eventually arranged to meet up with her.
The suspect met with the victim four times when he picked her up at her Turlock and Ceres homes, said Lewis in January. The victim’s parents were unaware that she was leaving the house with Tizoc.
Additionally, the parents of the victim said they were unaware the girl had access to Instagram, and claimed the girl’s grandmother had given her a cell phone in secret.
