This election cycle, Turlock residents have had the opportunity to elect a new mayor, two city council council members, a U.S. Representative, an array of state elected officials, decide the fate of two local measures and 6 ballot propositions,
While these initial results only include some of the vote-by-mail ballots received prior to today, final results posted tonight will be more accurate, though, will still not include between 5,000 and 10,000 vote-by-mail ballots dropped off at polling places; those will be counted before final results are certified within 28 days.
In the race for City Council, residents had the opportunity to vote for up to two of the following candidates: Sergio Alvarado, Donald Babadalir, Bill DeHart, Matthew Jacob and Forrest White. The top two citywide vote-getters will win the two seats up for election.
Jacob currently leads the Council race, with DeHart close behind in the second seat. White, however, is right behind DeHart.
Measure A, the proposed initiative to change to the manner in which City Council elections are held, from at-large to what will be, going forward, district elections in which the City will be divided into four districts with one councilmember representing each. Measure B, the half-cent seven-year road tax, requires a 66.7 percent, two-thirds majority approval to pass.
In the race for the U.S. House of Representatives, voters had the opportunity to choose from Incumbent, two-term, U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R), and challenger, Michael Eggman (D), local bee and almond farmer. Denham currently leads Eggman by nearly 13 percent.
Incumbent Assemblymember and newly minted chief Republican Whip, Kristin Olsen (R), and challenger Harinder Grewal (D), agricultural exports specialist, ran for the State Assembly 12th District seat, which covers parts of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties including Turlock. Olsen has a dominating lead over Grewal.
The race for California Governor between incumbent Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown (D), and
