Since 2003 the We Care Program has operated its emergency Winter Shelter for men of Turlock’s Homeless Community. This year We Care will continue on with its mission and has announced an earlier than expected opening for the Winter Shelter — slated for Nov. 8.
Prior to the opening, on Nov. 6, We Care will host an open house that will allow all supporters and the general public to tour the We Care Winter Shelter and learn more about the work the dedicated staff does.
The Open House will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at We Care Winter Shelter, 219 S. Broadway in Turlock.
The We Care Winter Shelter assures a safe environment, nutritious meals, and life skills coaching. We Care Manager Debbie Gutierrez says the shelter guests are also provided a number of services that help them become self sufficient with the hopes of getting them off the street.
“Last year we served a total of 6,748 shelter nights to 224 unduplicated guests,” Gutierrez wrote in an email. “The We Care Program has served a total of 2,191 men who have stayed a total of 61,181 shelter nights in the last 12 years.”
Also the We Care online volunteer calendar is open and still taking reservation spots for families, organizations or individuals can serve food to the We Care guests. The calendar can be found here.
