The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the 15-year-old male who was involved in the fatal collision while on a dirt bike on Saturday morning.
Jared Ficarelli, 15, who also goes by the last name Collins, was identified as the victim in Saturday’s collision.
Ficarelli was riding his dirtbike with a passenger on Rose Street on Saturday morning when they collided with a white Chevy Silverado at the intersection of F Street.
The driver of the truck, a 42-year-old male, immediately stopped following the collision.
The passenger of the dirt bike, who is believed to not have been wearing a helmet during the collision, suffered serious injuries in the accident, according to Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Neil Cervenka. Their current condition is unknown at this time.
Ficarelli was wearing a helmet, said Cervenka, but it is unknown if it was properly fitting or secure.
Cervenka stressed the importance of wearing proper safety gear while riding a motorcycle, especially a properly fitting helmet.
This collision was the second fatal motorcycle collision in less than three weeks. On Oct. 22, a motorcyclist was hit and killed by a vehicle who failed to properly yield at the intersection of Ninth Street and Rockwood Avenue. The victim was not wearing a helmet in the collision.
Motorists are also encouraged to “look twice” for motorcyclist, who are a much smaller object on the road, said Cervenka.
