Hours before the Turlock Downtown Christmas Parade begins, Main Street is already lined with hundreds of chairs as people start to stake their spot along the parade route.

Some chairs have been placed since early this morning, but the droves of chairs have multiplied since Main Street closed at 1 p.m.

Saving spots may prove to be worth it, though — thousands attend the event each year.

The main event will kick-off at 6:30 p.m., but the festivities will begin around 4 p.m. with vendors lining Main Street.

The parade will begin at Johnson Road, travel down Canal Drive, before heading through Downtown Turlock on Main Street.

Several road closures will be in effect throughout the night and detours will not be provided, so plan ahead.

Eastbound Canal Drive will be closed between Johnson Road and Main Street beginning at 4 p.m. and will reopen at 8 p.m.; westbound Canal Drive will remain open.

Main Street, which closed at 1 p.m., will be closed between Canal Drive and Lander Avenue until 10 p.m. Golden State Boulevard will be closed at Main Street beginning at 5 p.m.

Broadway Avenue between Market and Chestnut streets will also be closed between 5 and 8 p.m. for the parade.
