In a low-scoring, but high drama, high impact Powder Puff football contest, the Pitman Pride senior class defeated the junior class 8-6 at Joe Debeley Stadium in front of an impressive crowd.

The seniors only touchdown came early in the first quarter when volleyball star turned running back Maddy Halteman streaked through the junior’s defense for a 40-yard score. She added a 2-point conversion try to give the seniors the 8-0 lead and ultimately the win.

The juniors scored later in the first quarter when Kiana Clay ran the ball 61 yards up the middle for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion try failed and the score never changed.

Both teams wrestled for control from that point on. In the second junior’s defensive back Sonia Uppal intercepted a pass at the 50-yard line but the juniors were forced to punt just before the first half expired.

In the third quarter the teams exchanged punts several times. Late in the fourth quarter the seniors looked to secure the win, but a 53-yard touchdown run by Seviny Ganji was called back due to a holding penalty and a few players later the seniors punted with just 47 seconds left.

With under 30 seconds left the juniors had a serious threat to score when Kiana Clay had a 34-yard run on a reverse from the junior’s 16 yard line to the 50 but time expired and the seniors won the game.

MVP for the game were Halteman for the seniors for her scoring plays that won the game, and Clay for the juniors, who had over 100 yards rushing.
