The Turlock Police Department has received several reports of vehicles being vandalized and damaged by rocks or bricks being thrown through windows and is warning local residents of the incidents.

The most recent incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 18 when Turlock police received several reports, for a total of 19 vehicles damaged by river rocks or bricks.

All of the reports on Sunday were in the northwestern area of Turlock, near Pitman High School.

Sunday’s reports came in within an hour and a half timeframe around 10:30 p.m.

Turlock Police Department began investigating similar reports and found that between Dec. 15, 2013 and Jan. 18, there have been at least 45 vehicles damaged, according to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Not all of the 45 plus vehicles may be the same suspects, but it is possible that the crimes are related.

According to a post on the Turlock Police Department’s Nextdoor page, the suspect’s vehicle may possibly be a light colored SUV — similar to a Yukon or Tahoe — but that is not certain.

Most of the crimes have occurred between 9 and 11 p.m. No reports of theft from the damaged vehicles have been been made.

The Turlock Police Department reminds citizens to be safe and report all suspicious activity and crimes.

“If something does not seem right, chances are, it is not,” Turlock police posted on Nextdoor. “Remember to park in well-lit areas, and be the extra eyes and ears for your neighborhood."

Anyone with information on the incidents can contact the Turlock Police Department at 209-668-5550.

I tried to report what I thought was suspicious activity a couple of weeks ago. After explaining my concern I was put on hold and no one ever came back to the phone or contacted me about my call. It did make me wonder about being a good citizen, and my own safety.

This happened to my husband’s car back in July near Turlock High school so it has been going on for a while. Just a big river rock through the back windshield and went straight through and cracked the front. I was pregnant, living with my parents until my husband found a job and we had barely enough money to replace both windshields. Not my best day. I hope it was worth it for their second of “fun.”
