During the month of March, the Turlock Public Library will offer tons of free activities and crafts for all ages.

To kick-off the month, the library will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 3 at 4 p.m. Following the reading of a story by Dr. Seuss, children will take part in a Dr. Seuss themed craft. Throughout the month, children who find the Cat’s Hat in the library will win a prize.

Community members are invited to join the Turlock Library Book Club on March 4 at 10:30 a.m. for a discussion of William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer’s The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. A limited number of copies are available for checkout at the library. For more information, please contact the Turlock Library Reference Desk at 209-664-8100.

On March 10 at 4 p.m., children and teens can make a “stained glass” craft by glueing colorful tissue paper to a kite-shaped frame. When placed in sunlight, this completed craft will act like a prism.

The library will host “An Evening with Track and Field Legend Neal Steinhauer” on March 11 at 7 p.m. Steinhauer, former world record holder in the shot put, will recount his time spent representing the University of Oregon and the United States’ national track team in the 1960s.

At 4 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, will craft a rainbow chain with a shiny “pot of gold” at the end. Foil and glitter will be used to give this craft some eye-catching touches.

“As Seen on Pinterest” will be held on March 18 at 7 p.m. Crafters will use clothespins and wire to create wreaths that may be decorated for any occasion or season. The program is recommended for ages 14 and older and registration is required. Please call the Turlock Library at 209-664-8100 to register.

All ages are invited to build LEGO displays for the library on March 24 3:30 p.m. LEGO play helps children learn basic mathematic and engineering skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Children under the age of 4 are welcome to participate, however they must have direct parental supervision.

Finally, at 4 p.m. on March 31, families are invited to enjoy games at the library. Families can choose from several classic and new board and card games, puzzles, and more. Family game nights offer an opportunity for families to practice teamwork in an engaging environment.

These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Turlock Library. The Turlock Library is located at 550 Minaret Ave. in Turlock. For more information, please contact the Turlock Library at 209-664-8100.
