Two male suspects from Turlock and Modesto, respectively, have been arrested in connection with a kidnapping for ransom case out of Santa Rosa on Tuesday night.

Jorge Emanuel Martinez, 26, of Turlock, and Miguel Baeza Arevalo, 20, of Modesto, were both arrested for kidnapping and conspiracy.

Santa Rosa Police Department received a report of a kidnapping on the 1700 block of Guerneville Road around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Santa Rosa police, a man armed with a handgun had abducted a 25-year-old Santa Rosa resident from the front yard of his home and forced into a waiting truck in front of his wife and two small children.

Family members received phone calls from a man who demanded the family deliver money in exchange for the victim’s release, reports the Santa Rosa Police Department.

The victim was taken to Modesto, where he was placed in the trunk of another vehicle. At some point the victim was able to free himself and safely escape.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate the victim, as well as a vehicle fleeing the area. Deputies stopped the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, and arrested Martinez and Arevalo who are believed to be involved in the kidnapping. Both suspects were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.

A third suspect, the armed suspect who originally took the victim, has not been arrested and is still outstanding.

Authorities believe the kidnapping is related to illegal marijuana cultivation and sales. While these types of crimes are commonplace with the black market marijuana trade, the relationship between the victim and his captors remains unknown.

Santa Rosa police detectives conducted follow up investigation in Stanislaus County, with assistance of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Team at 707-543-3590.
