Turlock police arrested a male suspect last week after an officer spotted him attempting to flee Walmart with stolen merchandise.

The officer was patrolling behind the business at approximately 10:48 p.m. and spotted a male subject attempting to flee out the emergency exit with several hundred dollars of stolen merchandise.

When the subject saw the officer, he ran back in the store and the officer followed.

A short foot pursuit ensued inside the store, but the officer was eventually able to apprehend the suspect, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The officer also found that the suspect was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Jamie Murray, 40, was arrested for theft, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The merchandise was returned to the store, said Lewis.
