Turlock police arrested an auto burglar on July 20 after off-duty officers caught him in the act.

Off-duty officers in the 100 block of S. Broadway noticed a male subject reaching into a vehicle at approximately 11:43 a.m.

The suspect, later identified as Gary Reinhardt, 21, had successfully unlocked the door when the off-duty officers approached him, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

After stopping the burglary, the off-duty officers broadcasted the suspect’s description to patrol units, who found him a short time later.

Reinhardt was located approximately 45 minutes later in the 400 block of S. Golden State Boulevard, near KFC.

Reinhardt was arrested for auto burglary.

Why was the officer off duty when we have so much crime in this city? He should have been somewhere on duty and maybe we could finally get crime rates down!
