Residents within a four block radius of E. Main Street and Canal Drive are asked to shelter themselves due to a large natural gas leak.

PG&E is currently on scene attempting to control the gas leak and several road closures are in place in the area.

The Turlock Fire Department, who is assisting, has advised residents stay out of the area and businesses within a four block radius of E. Main Street and Canal Drive stay inside, close all doors and windows, and turn off AC units until further notice.

Businesses in the area have been notified of the gas leak, according to the Turlock Fire Department.

Motorists should use alternate routes, as Canal Drive is closed between Olive Avenue and E. Main Street, as well as surrounding roads.

The Turlock Police Department and Turlock Irrigation District are also on scene assisting.

The cause of the gas leak is unknown at this time.

TurlockCityNews.com will continue to update the story as information becomes available.

Cause unknown? PG&E has been digging up parts of the roads and doing stuff to the gas lines. Obviously, someone made a miscalculation and created this problem.

Oh, good – you’ve got it all sewn up. All the people who know a little something about this stuff can put their clipboards away and go home.
