The filing deadline for candidates has been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 12, for some Stanislaus County races.

The extension for such races began after the incumbents did not file. The incumbents are not allowed to file once the extended deadline goes into effect.

According to the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder Office, candidates have until Wednesday to file nomination papers for the stated races: Denair Unified School District Board of Trustees full term, Keyes Union School District Board of Trustees Area 4 full term and Area 5 short term, Keyes Community Services District Board full term, and Denair Municipal Advisory Council full term and a short term seat.

Some seats have attracted no candidates, including Keyes Union School District Area 4 full term, Keyes Union School District Area 4 full term, Keyes Union School District Area 5 short term, Paradise Elementary School District, Riverbank Unified School District Area 1, Stanislaus Union School District Area 3 short term (3 years), Turlock Unified School District Trustee Area 7, Crows Landing Community Services District – 2 seats, Grayson Community Services District, Knights Ferry Community Services District – 2 full term seats, Knights Ferry Community Services District short term, Westley Community Services District short term, Westport Fire Protection District – 2 seats, West Stanislaus Irrigation District Division 2, West Stanislaus Irrigation District Division 5, Denair Municipal Advisory Council – 2 full term seats, Empire Municipal Advisory Council – 2 full term seats, Municipal Advisory Council – 3 short term seats, Hickman Municipal Advisory Council – 3 full term seats, Hickman Municipal Advisory Council – 2 short term seats, Knights Ferry Municipal Advisory Council – 3 seats, and Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council short term.

Some races to appear on Stanislaus County ballots have candidates filing, but less than the amount of seats open.

The races that have candidates but not as many as there are seats open include: Roberts Ferry Union School District full term (1 candidate for 2 open seats), Valley Home Joint School District (2 candidate for 3 open seats), Westley Community Services District full term (2 candidate for 3 open seats), Denair Municipal Advisory Council short term (1 candidate for 2 open seats), South Modesto Municipal Advisory Council (1 candidate for 2 open seats).

If no candidates file or there are less candidates than open seats, the positions will be appointed a representative.

Countywide candidacies look to be at a new low for the 2015 Election.

Back in 2011 there were 25 unfilled positions and in 2013 there were 24. It’s projected for this 2015 odd-year election that there could be a significant increase in unfulfilled seats that will need to be appointed.

Those interested in filling an elected seat may file nomination papers at the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder Office located at 1021 I Street in Modesto.
