Turlockers are invited to attend a Memorial Day Service that will honor all of those who died in war.
The Turlock Memorial Day Service has been service has been a tradition in town since 1963. This year’s service will also be attended by District 10 Representative Jeff Denham, who also attended to the canon rededication event on Veteran’s Day last year.
Memorial Day’s origins interconnect with Decoration Day three years after the Civil War. It was a day where soldiers graves are decorated with flowers. Toward the end of the 19th century Memorial Day was celebrated on May 30.
After World War 1, the day was expanded to include all of those who have died in American wars.
Now, just as the a crowd gathered at Arlington National Cemetery for the first large observance, the Turlock community will be gathering at Turlock Memorial Park for the Memorial Day Service.
The Turlock Memorial Day Service will be held on May 30 at Turlock Memorial Park located on 425 North Sodequist Road at 9:30 AM.
