Damaged Fiber Optic Line Causes Charter Service Outage

Samantha Chamberlain

Internet, video, and phone services from Charter are down in Turlock and the surrounding areas.

Local businesses and residents are currently without these resources, with some currently not having services for almost 3 hours.

Charter’s Director of Regional Communications Brian Anderson stated that Turlock, Escalaon, and Riverbank are the three main areas that are impacted by the outage. He also added that it is possible for outages to spill into the communities surrounding these areas.

TurlockCityNews.com has been receiving comments from Facebook users noting that Charter services are down in Hilmar, Modesto, Waterford, Livingston, Ceres, and Salida.

According to Director Anderson, this is outage is “due to damage in a fiber optic line operated by a third party provider.”

The fiber optic line that was damaged is not Charter’s and is operated by a third party.

“The cause of the damage is not yet known,” stated Director Anderson.

Currently, there is no timeframe for when these services will be restored, but Director Anderson stated that crews are working to get service back up.

“Charter crews are working with crews from that third party to repair the damage and restore services as soon as possible.”
