At about 5:45 pm Sunday evening, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported dangerous driver at the intersection of South Golden State Boulevard and East Avenue. The caller had reported that a male subject in a silver Chevrolet pickup truck was northbound on South Golden State Boulevard drinking a tall boy beer can while driving.
An officer that was responding to the call from the northwest end of town was southbound on North Golden State Boulevard between West Tuolumne Road and West Monte Vista Avenue when he spotted a vehicle matching the description heading northbound. The officer continued up to West Tuolumne Road and made a u-turn, eventually catching up to the vehicle at Roberts Road. The officer on-viewed the driver of the vehicle violate a section of the California Vehicle Code and initiated a traffic stop.
Other officers arrived at the traffic stop and began conducting a DWI investigation. The investigation included the driver participating in standardized field sobriety tests and blowing into a preliminary alcohol screening device.
The results of the tests developed probable cause for officers to arrest the driver. He was arrested and released on a citation on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated with a breath alcohol content of .08 or higher.
