At about 12:30 am Tuesday morning, a Turlock Police officer at the intersection of West Avenue North and Florence Street, Turlock, on-viewed a vehicle traveling at high rates of speed westbound on Florence Street. The officer attempted to stop it, however, its driver, later identified as Laurence Lucas, 42, of Turlock, failed to stop for the officer.
Lucas led the officer southbound on North Soderquist Road and eastbound on Vermont Avenue before leg bailing from the vehicle near Sunnyside Drive. A short foot pursuit ensued before Lucas surrendered.
When Lucas had leg bailed from the vehicle, he had left it in gear and it struck a parked vehicle.
Lucas was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety, resisting a peace officer, hit and run with property damage, driving with a suspended license, possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia.
