At about 11:27 am Tuesday morning, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported weapons offense at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 North Soderquist Road, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a security guard who had placed the suspect, later identified as Alfredo Valencia, 26, of Modesto, under arrest after he had threatened him with pepper spray.

Prior to officers’ arrival, they were already aware of several incidents involving a suspect who had committed a robbery and several other crimes involving pepper spraying victims at local grocery stores over the past several weeks.

Officers were able to positively identify Valencia as the suspect in those crimes, and after he was interviewed by detectives, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of robbery, falsely identifying to a peace officer, brandishing a weapon, unlawful use of a teargas weapon, possession of a teargas weapon by a prohibited person, and resisting a peace officer.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Gina Giovacchini at 209-668-6539.
