At about 7:54 pm Saturday evening, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a medical aid at Goodwill, 3000 North Tegner Road, Turlock. The caller reported that there was a female in a black sedan behind the business not breathing that had possibly overdosed on drugs.
Officers arrived on scene prior to firefighters and paramedics and found the female unresponsive inside of her vehicle. After one of the responding officers found a baggy with a white powdery substance in it near the victim, Officer Matthew Ulrich immediately administered Naloxone, an extremely effective and fast opioid reversing agent. Within moments, the victim regained consciousness.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene shortly after and the victim was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.
Thanks to Ulrich’s quick thinking and actions, this overdose ended in a good way. Unfortunately, many others aren’t as lucky. We have seen a spike in opioid overdoses in the past few months and unfortunately will continue to see more and more in the near future.
