At about 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon, a Turlock Police officer in the 1500 block of Countryside Drive, Turlock, on-viewed a vehicle commit a violation of the California Vehicle Code and made a traffic stop on it.

The officer made contact with the vehicle’s driver, Barbara Cypress, 43, of Turlock, and conducted a records check on her. The records check revealed that she had a warrant out for her arrest for failing to appear in court for a false imprisonment case that gained a lot of local attention in March of 2019.

Cypress was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety on her warrant.

The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred in the afternoon hours of Friday, March 8, 2019. When Cypress was picking up her daughter from the school bus stop at Columbia Park, she grabbed ahold of another student and told her daughter to hit her. Cypress was arrested, went to court, and was convicted, however, when it was time for her to surrender herself in October of 2020, she did not and had been on the run ever since.
