At about 5:21 pm Saturday evening, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with no injuries in front of Wellness Massage, 2715 Geer Road, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they located two vehicles involved. One was a silver Chevrolet SUV and the other was a silver Honda sedan.

The silver Chevrolet sedan had one occupant, its driver, later identified as Robert Messer, 52, of Turlock. He did not suffer any injuries. The silver Honda sedan was unoccupied and parked.

Officers began investigating and noticed signs of intoxication coming from Messer. Officers also learned that Messer had a prior DWI that he was suspended for and had a warrant for. Officers asked Messer to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device. The results of those tests confirmed officers’ suspicions and Messer was placed under arrest. Throughout the course of the investigation, officers learned that for an unknown reason, Messer had backed his vehicle into two mailboxes and the parked silver Honda sedan. The collision caused one of the mailboxes to break off its foundation and fall to the ground.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The silver Chevrolet SUV was authority towed because its driver was arrested and the silver Honda sedan was left at the scene.

Messer was released on a citation on charges of driving while intoxicated.
