At about 1:37 am Saturday morning, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of East Olive Avenue and North Golden State Boulevard, Turlock, heard sounds of gunshots coming from Central Park, 101 South Golden State Boulevard.
The officer immediately drove towards the park and saw a silver Chevrolet SUV fleeing the area southbound on South Golden State Boulevard. A witness at the park claimed that that was the shooter.
The original officer and assisting officers caught up with the vehicle as they approached Golf Road and made a high risk stop on it.
The two occupants of the vehicle, Oscar Saldana, 22, of Merced, and Carlos Garcia, 23, of Hilmar, were ordered out of their vehicle. They both complied and were taken into custody without incident. As they were exiting the vehicle, a firearm fell to the ground from one of their possessions.
A witness was called to the stop who was able to confirm that the right people were detained.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. It is currently unknown if the shooting was meant to be targeted at someone.
Both subjects were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. Saldana was booked on charges of possession of a loaded firearm while possessing a controlled substance, carrying a loaded firearm concealed, discharging a firearm in a negligent matter, driving with a suspended license, and failing to stop at a stop sign. Garcia’s charges are currently unknown.
The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Juan Arroyo at 209-669-2103.
