At about 10:55 pm Wednesday night, a Turlock Police officer in the 1000 block of West Canal Drive, Turlock, noticed an occupied vehicle that had just been reported stolen.
The officer got out with the vehicle and made contact with its two occupants, Aliya Chauvin, 20, of Waterford, and Anthony Silver, 22, of Turlock. Chauvin was the driver and Silver was her passenger. The two were detained in handcuffs for further investigation.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, which yielded a handgun with an extended magazine that had its serial number scratched off, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Further investigation also revealed that Chauvin knew or should have known that the vehicle was stolen.
Both were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Chauvin on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and altering a license plate, and Silver on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a loaded firearm by someone other than the registered owner, possession of a concealed firearm by someone other than the registered owner, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in a public place by a prohibited person, altering a firearm’s identification, and possession of a large capacity magazine.
