At about 4:37 am Sunday morning, a Turlock Police officer in the 3700 block of North Berkeley Avenue, Turlock, came upon a vehicle collision with property damage.
Only one vehicle was involved, a gray Honda sedan.
The vehicle had one occupant, Michael Walters, 30, of Turlock. He was uninjured.
Officers noticed that Walters was exhibiting symptoms of intoxication, so they asked him to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device. Walters agreed to participate in the standardized field sobriety tests, but refused to blow into a preliminary alcohol screening device. As a result of Walters’ performance in the tests, officers developed probable cause to believe that he was intoxicated.
Walters’ vehicle sustained minor damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.
Officers began investigating the cause of the collision and determined that while Walters was traveling northbound on North Berkeley Avenue approaching Chandler Drive, he swerved his vehicle slightly to the left, causing the left side of its front bumper to collide with the center median.
Walters was arrested and released on a citation on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.
