On Thursday, March 9th, 2023, at 10:23 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported animal abuse in progress at Mister Car Wash, 487 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock, after a woman had been seen stomping on, dragging, and punching her chocolate-colored labrador dog.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman later identified as Shawnaice Azevedo, 37, of Turlock, sitting on the bus stop in front of the business with the dog. An animal control officer also arrived and found a fresh laceration on the dog.

Azevedo was asked to identify herself and she gave someone else’s name. Dispatch was able to find history with the person Azevedo claimed to be, however, the date of birth she gave didn’t match. A sergeant who had previously dealt with who Azevedo claimed to be then arrived and said that that wasn’t her.

Azevedo finally admitted to who she really was and it was discovered that she had a $100,500 local felony bench warrant for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Azevedo was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of animal abuse or endangerment, false personation, and falsely identifying to a peace officer, as well as her warrant.

The dog was impounded.
