Felon with flare gun arrested Thursday morning

On Thursday, March 23rd, 2023, at 10:44 am, a Turlock Police officer near the 300 block of Almond Ave, Turlock, recognized and made contact with a man who was a suspect in a vandalism he had taken a few hours earlier.

The man, Andrew Rom, 33, of Turlock, had been witnessed damaging a vehicle with a rock. During the investigation, he was positively identified as the suspect and the victim requested prosecution.

When Rom was contacted, he was found to be in possession of a flare gun and flares.

Flare guns meet California’s definition of a firearm and thus since Rom is a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing one.

Rom was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, vandalism, and violation of post release community supervision.

At about 2:20pm Wednesday afternoon, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s and Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense that had just occurred at a residence in the 900 block of Kenwood Avenue, after several callers had reported hearing about 10 shots in the area.
